WHILE players will be jumping to the hoop in the Women’s National Basketball League basketball competition this season, Greater Dandenong’s young people will be hip hoppin’ at half-time.
City of Greater Dandenong Council this week announced that local hip hop groups which had been part of its youth services programs would be featured in half-time entertainment at Dandenong Jayco Rangers matches beginning this Friday and running until February 2008.
Hip hop brigade the Street Funk Crew will be first cab off the rank, featuring in this Friday’s half-time show at Dandenong Basketball Stadium.
Greater Dandenong mayor Youhorn Chea said in a statement that he was proud of the city’s young people and the council’s youth services department.
“We are very proud of our youth services, not only because of the strength of the relationship staff have with local young people, but also because our approach of using hip hop culture as a vehicle for developing young people’s skills and interest, and even employment, has been recognised across Victoria as a model youth development program,” he said.
