STUDENTS from Greater Dandenong were given a science and technology careers tour of the south east to help foster their goals and ambitions.
The South East Local Learning and Employment Network Local Community Partnership (SELLEN LCP), together with the Regional Industry Career Advisor (RICA), provided students with an opportunity to visit science and technology businesses throughout the south-east of Melbourne as part of the E=MC2 Career Adventure. The tour consisted of 16 year 11 students from Dandenong High School’s Cleeland Campus visiting Bristol Myers Squibb, Chisholm Institute Dandenong and Woofpurnay Veterinary Hospital.
Students were given the opportunity to listen to various speakers and see how pharmaceutical products were processed, the range of technology and jobs available within the industry and the new Woofpurnay Veterinary Hospital, which caters for all animal needs. SELLEN LCP coordinator Alex Palazzolo said the students were able to view the different work environments and were spoken to about the skills that employers were looking for when seeking out new employees to fill the skills gaps that existed within each industry.
