KEYSBOROUGH stalwart Gwen Keys has died, aged 82, after a battle with cancer.
Mrs Keys, wife of Mervyn Keys, was best known for her work with Keysborough Golf Club and being related to the Keys family, which settled Keysborough in 1840.
Mrs Keys is survived by her husband Mervyn and two children, Michael and Jillian.
Keysborough South Ward councillor Peter Brown, a great-nephew of Mrs Keys, said the Keys family had lived at Glen Alvie homestead on Hutton Road.
Cr Brown said he was proud to be mayor in 2006 when Mrs Keys was still alive and well.
“I found it a great honour to be mayor and councillor in the area which they had lived all their life,” he said.
A funeral for Mrs Keys will be held today (Thursday) at the Springvale Botanical Cemetery.
