TWO of Greater Dandenong’s State MPs have been given tough portfolios in a Cabinet reshuffle by new Premier John Brumby.
Lyndhurst MP Tim Holding has collected former Deputy Leader John Thwaites’ Water portfolio, while Mulgrave MP Daniel Andrews has inherited Health from Bronwyn Pike.
Star contacted Mr Holding for comments on the challenges the Water portfolio will pose, but he failed to respond before deadline.
Mr Andrews said he was happy to take on Health and would focus on the ageing population, treating chronic diseases, and improving cancer services.
“It’s a great honour to have been chosen to serve as Health Minister,” he said.
“Health and hospital services are important to Victorian families and I’m committed to continued improvements in healthcare services so that all Victorians continue have access to world-class health care wherever they may live.
“The State Government has a proud record of investment and achievement in health services – but I’m the first to acknowledge that there’s more to be done.”
Mr Andrews was formerly Gaming and Consumer Affairs Minister, and the Minister Assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs.
Mr Holding retains Finance and Tourism, and also collects the Major Events portfolio.
