ANYONE who can pick up a pencil or paintbrush but wants to learn more about their art may now have an answer.
The Noble Arts group has been meeting once a month at the Noble Park Community Centre since July 2006 after the centre held a successful art exhibition.
The group is only in its infancy, according to member Heather Duggan, but she said it was looking to expand its numbers.
“We only started as a result of the art show last year,” she said.
“We asked each other whether we would be interested in coming together to paint, and thereby learning from each other.”
The results have so far been picture perfect, Ms Duggan said, with artists relying on each other for advice and tips, providing not only a sound learning environment but also a great social outlet.
Ms Duggan described the Noble Arts group as an “exchange of ideas” and said a variety of artists using different mediums attended the meetings.
“It’s a drop-in kind of environment,” she said.
“Some of us do watercolour, oils, sketching, and even though we are not big, we are working towards the art show again.”
Ms Duggan said there were about eight people who regularly attended the Noble Arts meetings, which fell on the second Wednesday of each month.
While the group currently gathers at the Noble Park Community Centre, there is talk of expanding its activities.
“We have thought about having field days where we go to paint in a park,” Ms Duggan said.
“Also, we have thought about going to art galleries together.
“But as I said, we’re still a very fledgling organisation.”
The group is already planning for this year’s Community Art Exhibition, which will be held on 30 June and 1 July at the Noble Park Community Centre, Memorial Drive, Noble Park.
Artists ranging from beginners to experienced are urged to join the group.
