DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a woman found wrapped in plastic and dumped outside a Springvale house believe she may have been a Filipino tourist.
The body of a woman was found outside a house in View Close, Springvale, on 12 December by labourers completing a home renovation. Police last week appealed for public assistance to help identify the woman and have released images of the clothing found on her body.
Investigations by the Homicide Squad have revealed the woman was 50 years old and in Australia on an expired tourist visa.
Police are trying to locate dental records and will be taking DNA samples, as well as working with the Filipino Consulate to establish the woman’s identity.
Meanwhile, police are continuing their appeal for information. The woman is described as about 160cm tall and about 50kg. Police said she was found wrapped in black plastic garbage bags and wearing blue denim jeans and a pink short-sleeve top with three neon blue stars on the front.
Initial investigations indicate the woman had been physically assaulted and her body dumped in the front yard of the house. Anyone with information about the incident or the woman is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
