RETAILERS have only until tomorrow (Friday) to book their spot at Dandenong’s premier retail awards ceremony.
The Dandenong Retail Traders’ Association (DRTA) Annual General Meeting and Business Awards Dinner is to be held at the Dandenong Club, Heatherton Road, Dandenong on Tuesday 27 November at 6.30pm.
Guest speaker will be Racing Victoria chairman of stewards Des Gleeson.
Mr Gleeson is universally recognised as one of the most respected racing stewards in the world.
He was first appointed as a cadet steward with the South West District Racing Association in October 1973.
He grew through the ranks to become deputy chairman of stewards with the Victoria Racing Club in April 1983 and took over as chairman in September 1996.
Since October 2003, Mr Gleeson has been the director of integrity racing and chairman of stewards with Racing Victoria.
The three-course dinner costs $50 a head with some drinks included and others available at bar prices. Bookings are essential.
DRTA members receive one free ticket as part of their membership, but they must still make a booking for catering purposes.
The evening features the announcement of winners in the DRTA Annual Business Awards, the most prestigious awards for Central Dandenong retailers.
“These are exciting awards which will recognise the many facets of retailing in Central Dandenong,” DRTA chairman Roy Aspinall said.
“I urge all retailers to come along to the dinner to hear a stimulating guest speaker and enjoy networking with fellow retailers.”
“On behalf of our association and the retailers of Central Dandenong I would like to thank the City of Greater Dandenong council and Sign-A-Rama for their sponsorship of the annual DRTA Business Awards.”
The awards fall into five categories with a sixth, Central Dandenong Retailer of the Year, being decided by the judging panel.
The Central Dandenong Retailer of the Year will be an automatic entry in the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce Premier Regional Business Awards.
The 2006 winner of the award was Gemini Catering Equipment, with Compleat Angler in 2005, Answers For Hair in 2004 and Big In Black the inaugural winner in 2003.
There are limited numbers and bookings close on Friday.
Bookings can be made by ringing Peter Butts on 9706 9465.
