SPRINGVALE West Primary School has tightened the taps to become an accredited water saving school.
The school community has been working with South East Water over the past 12 months under the State Government’s Our Water Our Future program to gain Water Learn It Live It accreditation.
Principal Susan Bridges said the school was extremely proud of the achievement and of its new water saving techniques.
“I was amazed at how much the students took on board and the commitment they showed to saving water both at school and at home,” she said.
“We now have an established water recycling program in our school that involves all the students and the next is installing a rainwater tank and a no dig vegetable patch.”
To meet water saving accreditation, the school had to pass a series of milestones including being part of National Water Week activities and teachers completing water conservation classes.
South East Water this week said it would provide schools seeking the accreditation with a Water Live it Learn It kit.
The kit caters for both primary and secondary schools.
South East Water managing director Dennis Cavagna urged schools to be part of the program.
