IT’S MINARET – not Mina’wet’ after South East Water granted the Springvale college official water saving status last week.
Minaret College has now become an accredited Water – Learn it! Live it! school after taking part in the innovative water education and conservation program of the same name.
South East Water this week announced it would erect a sign marking the accreditation outside the school’s entrance to tell the community about its positive water saving attitude.
Over the past 12 months, Minaret College has been working with South East Water to integrate water conservation into its curriculum and reduce water use throughout its grounds.
Minaret College principal Mohammed Hassan said the school was extremely proud of its accreditation.
“We have integrated water conservation into the schools’ curriculum and students have enthusiastically participated in many activities including the ‘Water for Life’ poster competition which was an excellent learning experience,” Mr Hassan said.
“Water – Learn It! Live it! has helped to raise awareness among the school community via newsletters and water diaries which the students used to monitor water consumption at school and home.”
To meet accreditation for Water – Learn it! Live it! the school achieved a series of milestones including participation in National Water Week activities and professional development sessions for teachers.
South East Water provides schools wishing to integrate water conservation into the curriculum with a Water – Learn It! Live It! resource kit, suited to both primary and secondary schools, as well as planning support from a dedicated education officer.
