WHAT do Batman and the Pope have in common?
You can be with both at the Lunar Drive In at Dandenong South, thanks to the cinema’s quirky tie-in with World Youth Day.
Lunar Drive-In manager Anthony Madigan said the business had been selling ‘Pope-corn’ in place of popcorn last week, and the novel renaming may have boosted sales as cinema goers had a chuckle.
“We think it’s the same as popcorn, but it might have a more everlasting effect on you,” Mr Madigan said.
The drive-in theatre experienced a solid weekend of ticket sales thanks to the opening of The Dark Knight, a new Batman film. Mr Madigan said Pope-corn was his business partner’s idea and so far had offended no-one.
“All the way down here in Melbourne we missed out on the joy the pilgrims had,” Mr Madigan said.
“Perhaps you could say I’m agnostic but it doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy seeing religions getting together and celebrating.”
Mr Madigan said the Pope-corn had been well received.
Holy buttered Pope-corn, Batman!
