Oz Day awards up for grabs

RESIDENTS who have performed outstanding efforts for the community could be nominated for the 2009 Greater Dandenong Australia Day Awards.
Greater Dandenong mayor John Kelly said this encouraged people to nominate those they thought were worthy of the awards.
Categories include Citizen of the Year, Young Achiever of the Year, and Non-Resident of the Year.
“The Greater Dandenong Australia Day Awards form part of Council’s Australia Day festivities,” he said.
“They provide a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate the often unsung contributions of members of our community.”
Councillor Kelly said residents had until 5pm on Friday 31 October to nominate for the awards.
Winners will be decided by a community panel and presented with their awards during the Greater Dandenong Australia Day celebrations on 26 January at the Drum Theatre.
Celebrations will continue with an Australia Day Concert at Dandenong Park.
Nomination forms are available by phoning 9239 5134.
