Call out for workers

THE manufacturing industry is currently suffering a skills shortage, with too many jobs and not enough qualified employees to fill them.
To help local industry the South East Local Learning and Employment Network Local Community Partnership (SELLEN LPC) and Jayco have announced an Australian School Based Apprenticeship Program (ASBA) in manufacturing for young people in the South East region.
In order to address the current skills shortage, the Jayco ASBA Manufacturing Program will enable 24 students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the manufacturing industry.
SELLEN Community Partnerships Co-ordinator Alex Palazzolo said the program would also aim to provide young people with a Certificate III in Manufacturing and the opportunity of obtaining an apprenticeship and full-time employment. “Successful students will attend school three days per week and Jayco two days per week,” Mr Palazzolo said.
He said that SELLEN was currently looking for interest from local schools for current Year 10 students.
