A MULTI-MILLION dollar broadband upgrade in Victorian Government Schools will benefit many students in the City of Greater Dandenong.
The $89.3 million VicSmart initiative funded by the Brumby Government will see a major broadband upgrade to increase high-speed broadband capacity from four to 10 megabits-per-second.
The upgrades will begin this month and are expected to be completed in June 2009.
Premier John Brumby said students were already reaping the educational benefits of the 4 Mbps high-speed broadband.
“Students will now be able to access and share information and on-line resources nearly two-and-a-half times faster” he said.
Telstra Chief Executive Officer Sol Trujillo said high-speed broadband was vital to enhance the educational opportunities of students.
“The options for delivering better learning outcomes are endless.”
