THE DANDENONG Festival of Music and Art for Youth will retire at the ripe age of 62 after the 2009 event.
Committee president Ron Stephenson said the decision to retire the festival in its current form was due to the lack of volunteers available.
“Over the past few years it has not been possible to attract volunteers to train in the leadership and administration needed to carry on into the future,” he said.
“Circumstances have changed – youth are caught up in many and varied interests, and age has caught up with the committee.”
A statement released by the committee said they were proud and happy that the festival has adhered to and maintained the objectives of the originators who in 1948 had a vision for youth, music and art.”
“We thank all patrons, sponsors, teachers, families and young people who have given valued support over many years.”
A review process is being planned and residents are urged to check the festival website for updates or attend the information afternoon on 15 February 2009.
