Environmental art

TWO accomplished artists will present an exhibition of their new works at the Walker Street Gallery during November.
Peter Biram and Peter Rowe have both exhibited widely throughout Australia, and have been finalists in the Walker Street Gallery’s ‘He’ competition.
Mr Biram’s works entitled ‘Environmental Reflections with Undertones of Possible Disaster’ explore the theme of land ownership and the usage within an environmental framework.
Mr Biram, an art, design and multimedia teacher at Gippsland TAFE, said his latest collection of works was born out of a trip to the Murray River.
“It was a direct response to the current water crisis,” he said.
“It explores the delicate balance of the value of water in one of the driest contin-ents on this planet.”
Mr Rowe is a co-ordinator of visual arts at Chisholm Institute in Dandenong.
He said his latest collection of works on paper combined coloured pencil and torn photographic images on a base of acrylic paint.
“The work deconstructs randomly selected photographic images and reconstructs and rearranges them to produce semi-abstract landscapes,” Mr Rowe says.
“The works gener-ate a liveliness link-ing geometry to life and evoking a senseof rhythm through to mayhem.“
The exhibition will run from 2 to 26 November.
Admission to the Walker Street Gallery is free and the public is invited to attend the opening night on Thursday 5 November at 6.30pm.
