Council surplus to fund new works

MORE than $1million in new capital funding has been allocated to a variety of projects following the City of Greater Dandenong’s mid-year-budget review.
The projects will be funded in part by the council, with the remaining funding coming from $569,000 in Federal Government grants.
The council’s corporate services director Mick Jaensch said the council reviewed its forecast outcomes to 30 June next year and identified a projected surplus result.
“With the additional funding received from the Federal Government for some of these projects a number of key projects are now able to begin earlier than originally anticipated,” he said.
“Through the mid-year review process the council has retained a surplus balance of $506,000.
“This balance will be used as contingent funding for the remainder of the 2009/10 financial year, and will be transferred to future capital works projects if not used.” Funding has been allocated to the Noble Park Civic Space, Gerry Sweeting Pavilion Lois Twohig Reserve, Springvale Reserve stage two refurbishment, Dandenong Park Master Plan Implementation, Jan Wilson air-conditioning, Springvale Reserve spectator stands, Springvale Reserve electronic scoreboard, asbestos removal at 303 Springvale Road, Springvale Reserve coaches box, barbecue and parks furniture and councillor minor capital projects.
