VINTAGE clothing and textiles will be the hot topic at Heritage Hill Museum and Historic Gardens in the coming months.
To celebrate its current exhibition Hart and Hand, a number of specialist talks and tours focussing on vintage textiles will be held. Patricia Begg will showcase 60 examples of antique and vintage lace on Tuesday 16 February as part of her ‘History of Hand Made Lace’ talk.
She will discuss the history of this art form – from its early ecclesiastical use to the French Revolution.
This uniquely European art form was made by poor women for the royalty of Europe and provides a fascinating insight into the cultures and classes of the time.
She will also present another talk on the history of lace on Tuesday 23 February. Nicole Jenkins of Circa Vintage Clothing, Fitzroy, will present Love Vintage, a collector’s look at antique and vintage clothing, on Tuesday 2 March.
Ms Jenkins will reveal how and why she became so fascinated with vintage clothing and where to find it.
She will bring several antique and vintage pieces from her own extensive collection to use as illustrations and encourages participants to bring garments of their own for discussion.
All talks start at 2pm and run for approximately an hour with afternoon tea served afterwards.
The cost is $12 per talk or $32 for all three, which includes afternoon tea and entrance to the Hart and Hand Exhibition. Bookings are essential, call 9793 4511.
