The secret to their success

By Lia Bichel
TED and Myrtle Lloyd said the secret to a successful marriage was communication.
And they should know – the two are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary today (Thursday).
The Noble Park couple met in 1948 at a dance in Glenferrie.
Within six months they were engaged.
They married in Ringwood in 1950 and shortly after moved to a house they built in Noble Park, and continue to live in today.
The couple said they have lived a happy life together and said they are most proud of having and raising three children.
Their eldest child is Diane, 57, followed by Garry, 55, and Kevin, 52.
“Our children have been wonderful to us,” Mrs Lloyd said.
The couple said they have worked hard to raise their children as well as keep their marriage strong.
“We work together for everything,” Mrs Lloyd said.
“Communication is key, you have to tell each other what you are doing whether it is financial or anything else,” Mr Lloyd said.
“Everyone has their arguments but you have to communicate. And you have to care about each other.”
The couple said they still love each other and look forward to spending many more years together.
“It doesn’t seem like it’s been 60 years!” Mrs Lloyd said.
The two received letters of congratulations from the Queen, Prime Minister and Premier.
They will celebrate with about 50 friends and family at the Country Club in Mulgrave on Saturday.
