A DANDENONG man is in an induced coma and has two broken legs after someone stole his van and hit him with it on the weekend.
Police said the Dandenong man, 61, saw someone stealing his older model silver coloured Toyota Tarago van from outside his David Street residence at about 1.50pm on 2 April and ran outside to try and stop the thief.
Police said the driver of the van did a u-turn in Eton Court, drove straight towards the man with no apparent attempt to avoid him, and knocked him to the ground.
He was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics, before being transported to Dandenong Hospital with serious injuries. He is currently in a stable condition.
Police said the Tarago van was found abandoned in Garside Street, Dandenong around 3.15pm the same day. Police are still searching for the thief, who is described as being a man with dark hair, a large build and wearing light coloured clothing.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have information that will assist in the investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers. com.au.
