POLICE fear a murderer is on the loose after a Springvale woman was found dead on the weekend.
A Sandown Greyhounds Tabaret employee found the bodyin the venue’s car park at about 10.30am on Sunday.
Police identified the woman on Monday night after appealing to the public and releasing a photo-fit image of her, but are still searching for information about her death.
Detective Senior Sergeant David Snare said the death was being treated as a murder.
He said he could not comment on how she died until after he received toxicology report results.
Investigators are considering the possibility the woman was killed elsewhere and dumped in Springvale.
“The way the body was found, it may be that she was killed elsewhere and dumped at the scene,” he said.
Det Sen Sgt Snare said the body could have been dumped at the venue anytime between the evening of Saturday 24 April and 10.40am Sunday.
“It is a busy time of the year, but being Anzac Day morning the TAB was shut shortly after midnight and wasn’t due to open until about midday the next morning,” he said.
Detectives are urging anyone who may have visited the car park area of the Sandown Greyhounds Tabaret venue in View Road Springvale between the evening of Saturday 24 April and 10.40am Sunday, regardless of whether they saw anything suspicious or not, to contact police.
The woman was described as being of Asian appearance, about 30 to 50 years of age, 153cm tall, of slight build, approximately 40 kilograms in weight, with collar-length straight black hair. She was wearing blue flared jeans, a black and white long-sleeved cotton shirt with a collar, and buttons at the front.
