A DANDENONG resident said she was devastated when two gold chains belonging to her step-father, who died last week, were stolen from her car just a day after his funeral.
Veronika Proudfoot, 51, said the two gold chains were the only memento she had of her step-father.
She said the chains were stolen from her handbag, which she accidentally left in her car outside her Williams Avenue residence overnight. Her GPS was also stolen from the car.
“I usually always take those things inside, but I was running around after the funeral and forgot and left them there,” she said.
“I do lock my car, but maybe my seatbelt got stuck in the door.”
Ms Proudfoot said she found her empty handbag in the rubbish bin outside her home when she returned from work on Thursday.
She said the theft had shaken her whole family, and she now felt vulnerable after moving from Bayswater to Dandenong with her 21-year-old son just two months ago.
“It’s a devastating time for us all. It makes me feel very vulnerable, and my mother is left heartbroken,” she said.
“I want to move back to Bayswater. I didn’t think people would be like that.”
Ms Proudfoot said the stolen chain was identical to the one her step-father and mother gave her son when they returned from a trip to Yugoslavia.
She hoped anyone who sees her stolen chain would hand it over to the police.
Anyone with information about this incident should contact Dandenong police on 9767 7444.
