IT WAS a night of glamour, food, entertainment and, of course, dancing at the Mayoral Charity Dinner on Saturday.
The event raised $22,000 for the CFA’s Southern Metropolitan Region.
In July, Mayor Jim Memeti said he had a “soft spot” for the CFA because of its dedication to the community.
“I think the work they do is remarkable. They are the ones going into burning buildings while everyone else is running out,” he said.
“They are a vital community organisation, consisting of dedicated staff and volunteer firefighters, who rely in part on fundraising to improve their facilities and update their equipment.”
Cr Memeti said he was impressed with the outcome of the event.
“The night was extremely successful,” he said.
“It took a lot of hard work to put it all together but I had great support.
“I was very happy with the support from my family and friends, colleagues and local community groups and business,” he said.
City of Greater Dandenong chief executive officer John Bennie credit the mayor for his efforts.
“He did an excellent job of organising the event and making it such a good night,” Mr Bennie said.
