Panthers washed out

By Justin Robertson
DANDENONG Panthers have suffered their first defeat of the season losing a rain-marred one-day match against an in-form Fitzroy-Doncaster unit.
After losing opening pair Alex Hales for a second ball duck and Tom Donnell for 10, the Panthers were dangling at 2/11.
A steady partnership of 39 between Darren Dempsey – who remained not out on 42 – and James Nanopoulos (23) took their score to 3/56 after 20 overs, but were unable to collect crucial wickets in the field as the home team looked solid at 1/78 from their first dig.
The match could only muster up five more overs before the heavens opened up and play was abandoned.
The Panthers lost two more wickets and were 5/90 at the close of their innings.
Fitzroy-Doncaster took five points from the match, based on their first innings result.
This week Dandenong will play host to Melbourne in the first two-dayer for the year.
