SOUTH East Juniors representative teams impressed at the Graincorp Dandenong Junior Carnival and the Vic Metro Junior Championships over the long weekend – with the Under-16 boys hoisting the trophy while the Youth Girls team booked a spot in the grand final.
The Under-16 boys knocked off their next door neighbour league, the Mornington Peninsula Junior Football League, with a come-from-behind 6.5 (41) to 3.5 (23) win to claim the championship.
Thomas Glen, Cory Machaya, Tamas Siposs and Travis Dobson all performed excellently throughout the carnival.
The South East Juniors Youth Girls team had a tougher run this year, with the restriction of players only 16-or-under coming into effect for the first time this season.
The DDJFL/South East Juniors Youth Girls record in the Metro championships has been flawless – snaring six consecutive titles since the championship started in 2006.
Defeating Northern FL 13.13 (91) to 2.2 (14) easily, the SEJ squad had a tougher time against Yarra JFL, downed 3.8 (26) to 9.12 (66), despite a three goal haul from Georgia Anderson to keep the Demons in the match.
It left the SEJ to beat the Western Region FL to advance to the grand final, which the SEJ team was able to do – knocking off WRFL 4.10 (34) to 3.3 (21).
The Demons turned to the three Georgias to get the job done – half-back/midfielder Georgia Fisher, forward Georgia Anderson and Georgia Gee all impressed in the Monday morning match, giving the South East Juniors a chance to go for seven in a row in a rematch against Yarra JFL.
The Youth Girls grand final will be held at 10am on Saturday 22 June at Trevor Barker Beach Oval, Sandringham.
