GET your skates on and join the derby.
That’s the call from South Sea Roller Derby, a skater-owned and run community group promoting female empowerment and athleticism.
The league is looking for new skaters for the New Year and will kick off its ‘fresh meat’ drive on Sunday, 17 January at 12.30pm at The Shed at Dandenong Showgrounds.
South Sea Roller Derby is affiliated with the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and is the only women’s roller derby league in the south-east.
Its program is tailored toward beginners, but there are places for skaters who want an exciting way to get fit through to those aiming to play at a national level.
It will cost $10 to try before you buy, or memberships will be available for $50 per month.
Quad skates, kneepads, elbow pads, wrist guards and helmets can be hired on the day.
Skaters need to bring their own mouthguard.
