Apex arrests over carjackings

TWO men believed to be part of the Apex Gang have been arrested in Dandenong over a series of alleged carjackings.
The 18-year-olds were arrested by Port Phillip CIU detectives, Taskforce Tense and Special Operation Group officers at the corner of Stud and Heatherton roads just after 2pm on Monday.
Police say the pair, from Dandenong and Noble Park respectively, were involved in a spate of carjackings, aggravated burglaries and armed robberies in Melbourne’s south-east over several months.
One of the men collided with a police vehicle during the arrest.
He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A police spokesman said it was not known if the pair was involved in a violent brawl between Apex and Islander 23 gangs, which marred the Moomba festival in Melbourne’s CBD on 12 March.
A man was seriously injured during the fights and several robberies and an assault were also reported to police.
