A Dandenong-based legal centre will use a $300,000 boost to grow its team.
Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams announced on Wednesday 6 December that Casey Cardinia Community Legal Service would receive the State Government grant over two years.
It will pay for a solicitor two days per week, a social worker one day per week and a receptionist for 2.5 hours per week to fulfil unmet demand, especially from elderly people experiencing abuse or seeking legal information, advice, community legal education and support groups.
The money will employ a part-time family violence duty lawyer to help family violence clients and victims at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on three extra days.
It will also employ a solicitor two days per week, a social worker one day per week and an administration worker 2.5 hours per week to provide information and advice, case manage the clients and assist with non-legal problems and community legal education.
Ms Williams said the funding would support those who needed it most.
Attorney-General and Keysborough MP Martin Pakula said: “This funding will help community legal centres to deliver more family violence and legal support services to vulnerable and disadvantaged Victorians.”
