AFL multicultural envoy

Dandenong-based AFL multicultural ambassador Azmeena Hussain with St Kilda Football Club player Ahmed Saad.

DANDENONG lawyer Azmeena Hussain is an AFL multicultural community ambassador this season.
Her tireless community work helping the disadvantaged and those from non-English speaking backgrounds throughout Greater Dandenong, Casey, Cardinia and Monash earned her the spot.
She’s one of 55 people across the state selected for the role and will work to connect AFL staff with the Greater Dandenong community to boost local engagement and inclusion.
Through her work as a community-minded WorkCover lawyer with Maurice Blackburn, Ms Hussain has developed a reputation for being a strong migrant advocate on a variety of issues.
She says the ability to partner with the AFL and extend that work should benefit a range of people.
“It’s great to have two strong vehicles to use to try and help promote stronger communities,” she said.
“I’ve seen first-hand the power of embracing multiculturalism at the grassroots level so I’m extremely excited about being part of this great AFL initiative and assisting young people engage with their local communities through the great Australian passion for sport.”
AFL Victoria multicultural programs co-ordinator Kashif Bouns said ambassadors like Ms Hussain would play a key role throughout the year in showing how sport could act as a vehicle for engagement and inclusion.
