KEYSBOROUGH kept its season alive with a gutsy seven-point win over Mornington.
Trailing at quarter-time, 20-22, whatever coach Nathan Vogt said to his charges must’ve been inspiring as the Cougars jumped out of the blocks to hit 32-17 in the second term.
Shooting 11/20 in the second term, everyone chipped in with points as seven of their eight players reached double figures.
It was a combined Keysborough effort to get the team across the line – posting 15 and 27 in the second half to hold on for the 94-87 victory.
Tim Brook (15 points, eight rebounds) put in the Herculean effort, staying on court for all but a slight breather in a 39-minute match.
Alistair Granger (16 points) and John Constance (11 points, six rebounds) hit triple three-pointers each, while in the front court, Kevin Benn (11 points), Matt Dettman (11 points) and Adam Sliwinski (15 points) was also prolific.
The battle to hold onto fourth position this week, heading into finals, boils down firstly to Keysborough defeating Pakenham this Sunday at Springers Leisure Centre.
From there, the winner of the fifth v sixth Western Port/Mornington match on Saturday night has to lose its second match of the weekend to Casey or Coburg respectively.
Alternatively, a big win and a small loss on Sunday for either the Steelers or Breakers could see them go through if Keysborough’s margin results narrow victory.
Tip-off is 2pm.
