Bikies linked to crossing works

THE State Government will not confirm whether it will retain a sub-contracted labour hire and traffic management firm that was last week linked with criminal bikie gangs on the Springvale level crossing removal project.
Last week the Age newspaper claimed KPI Constructions hired two outlaw bikie figures and several of underworld figure Mick Gatto’s relatives at the level-crossing project at a rate of up to $45 an hour.
A government spokeswoman said KPI Constructions’s employees worked in gate-control positions during times of significant vehicle movements in and out of the construction site.
She said KPI was hired as a sub-contractor through the “same selection process as other sub-contractors”.
Last week, KPI Constructions director Kevin Ramsay said claims that his company had links to bikie gangs was “a lot of BS”.
“We are not affiliated with bikies or anything like that at all.”
He said the claims had “not as yet” affected his business.
“If I was guilty I would be worried.”
