Dandenong Market is celebrating the Māori new year Matariki with performances, activities and New Zealand street food.
From 11am to 2pm on Sunday 12 June there’ll be performances by cultural group Ngā Manu Waiata, moko face stencilling and traditional weaving workshops.
Street food offerings will include traditional dish hāngi, raw fish, mussel fritters, NZ kina and fried bread burgers.
Matariki is the Māori name for the Pleiades star cluster that rises in early June, heralding the start of a new year.
Matariki is a time to connect with and give thanks to the land, sea and sky, and for community celebration.
