Witnesses wanted in robbery after bottle attack

By CASEY NEILL

Two witnesses to a Dandenong bottle-attack and robbery are urged to come forward and help police.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Constable Nic Hayes said the victim, a 40-year-old man, was sitting on a Lonsdale Street bench about 9pm on Monday 30 May when a man approached.
He demanded the victim’s phone, police allege, and struck the back of his head with a heavy backpack.
The victim tried to flee but tripped over on the road.
Det Sen Const Hayes said the alleged attacker then hit the victim with a bottle and stole some of his belongings.
Police have since arrested a 24-year-old man over the incident.
It’s believed the victim asked people who were in the street at the time to help or call police.
“Police haven’t been able to locate these people,” Det Sen Const Hayes said.
“This is a call for those two witnesses to come forward to assist.”
