Dandenong will be building a new fleet of 15 buses linking Melbourne Airport as a result of a new State Government contract with SkyBus.

Local manufacturer Volgren will build the additional SkyBuses, which will run on extra routes linking Melbourne’s suburbs to the airport.

The state-of-the-art additions will be equipped with USB powered portals and Wifi.

On 27 July, Volgren chief executive Peter Dale said the “order book certainty” would help the company invest in skilled jobs in the South East.

“This order will help showcase our great buses to an even wider market.”

Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams said each Volgren-made bus created five Victorian jobs.

“This investment by Skybus in Volgren buses is great news for jobs and skills in the South East.”

SkyBus chief executive Adam Bugg said the company would boost its service frequency and improve connectivity to outer urban areas.

“SkyBus is agile and can go where Victoria’s growth is, expanding services and providing a vital link to Victoria’s airports to those communities who need it most.”

In June, the State Government announced a performance-based 10-year contract, including extra services and a cut-price fare for Peninsula travellers.
