After 20 years, Justice of the Peace services have been squeezed out of Dandenong police station due to high numbers of visitors.

Document signings by JPs will now take place at Dandenong Library from Monday 30 September.

Senior Sergeant Brett Skurka said police needed to prioritise the high volume of people attending for police assistance.

“It is important that the public attending for police service and advice are attended to in a timely manner and receive that service.”

In the past two decades, JP volunteers are believed to have signed more than 1.5 million documents at the station.

It had helped “free up a significant amount of police resourcing,” Sen Sgt Skurka said.

“We’d like to thank the Justice of the Peace volunteers for all their hard work and the important assistance they provide to our community.”

The JP serice does not include witnessing documents for use at Births Deaths and Marriages. Such documents can be certified at the Dandenong Justice Service Centre, Monday to Friday.

JP volunteers will be at Dandenong Library, 225 Lonsdale Street on Monday-Thursday 10am-3pm, Tuesday-Thursday 6pm-8pm and Friday 10am-12.30pm.

Outside of these hours, the Springvale Document Signing Service at Springvale police station may be available, police advised.
