Community fixtures released

The Southern Football League will be looking to make it five wins in a row when they travel to take on Riddell Football League in the 2019 AFL Victorian Community Championships.

AFL Victoria announced the fixtures for 18 May 2019 on Tuesday 27 November, with the Southern league looking to continue its strong form in Interleague from the previous four matches.

2019 will also mark the fourth consecutive year of the Community Championships, with a total of 30 community leagues opting to battle it out for the ultimate bragging rights.

In addition, the 2019 fixture will also see a host of community leagues take on local rivals, with reduced travel for leagues highlighting the draw.

In a major surprise, the number-one ranked football league, Eastern Football League, has withdrawn from the championships in 2019, with the top-ranked match between the metropolitan Northern Football League and country’s Geelong Football League to take centre stage.

AFL Victoria Community Football & Development Manager Stephen O’Donohue said the 2019 representative competition would once again be a highlight for grassroot footballers across the state.

“The 2019 WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships promises to be another exciting event on the community football calendar,” he said.

“As per each season, all leagues have the ability to opt-in to participate in the competition, and as long as the desire to play representative football is still present, the opportunity to compete against the best senior players in community football will be available.”

Venues and timings for all games are yet to be finalised and will be announced in the new year. For a full fixture, visit aflvic.com.au
