DANDENONG Thunder coach Chris Taylor could request his side play some home matches away from George Andrews Reserve after off-season works left the playing surface in questionable condition.

Drainage work was done on the pitch in early in the new year with the grass dug up and resown.

But during the Thunder’s 4-0 win over Southern Stars on March 24 it was clear some of the pitch has not sown together well and may need more time to mess together.

Taylor said the ground, while hugely popular with Thunder supporters, could need a break from matches.

“It may need three or four weeks without matches,” he said. “But I will leave that decision to the club administration and the council.

”My opinion is that it may need a break. The council have been very good through this and we may need to talk with them and see what options we have.

”Some patches have settled well but other parts were coming up and it doesn’t suit the passing style of football we play.”

Thunder defender Brian Bran went down with a knee injury late in the Thunder’s first home game against Southern Stars after his knee twisted on a loose bit of turf. He returned to the field and was able to continue playing.

“If the pitch doesn’t improve it could get much worse once more wet weather arrives,” he said.

The Thunder enter the Easter break with two wins from their first two games. The Thunder host Melbourne Knights at George Andrews this Saturday night.
