KEYSBOROUGH’S own Vince Grella captained the Socceroos during the team’s friendly match against Ghana yesterday (Wednesday).
Grella, 26, was a starting player during the Socceroos’ World Cup campaign in June.
He was granted his first captaincy honour after injury kept defender and current captain Lucas Neill on the sidelines during the friendly match in England.
The Grella family, which still resides in Keysborough, proudly watched their soccer star son yesterday morning.
“We are very proud,” his mother Maria said.
“After the World Cup it’s another good thing for him and for all of us.”
Grella grew up in Keysborough and played his early matches with Springvale City Soccer Club.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
