POLICE and Dandenong’s peak retail body are urging central Dandenong traders to update their emergency contact details after an incident in which a shop owner could not be notified of a break-in.
Dandenong Police and the Dandenong Retail Traders’ Association (DRTA) was distributing information sheets to retailers throughout the city which prompted them to enter their most up-to-date contact details.
DRTA chairman Roy Aspinall said the sheet was needed after an incident during which police were unable to contact a shop owner to alert him of a break-in.
“We sent out a copy of it out to all DRTA members with our mailout this month,” Mr Aspinall said.
“But all retailers are asked to fill out one and assist police in their job to make Greater Dandenong a safer place to work and live.
“I think we’ve done it three times in the last 10 years, but businesses change hands.
“We basically want to know who the owner is and to have a contact number for outside business hours.”
Contact Roy Aspinall on 9793 3487 or Dandenong Police Station on 9767 7444 for a form.
