POLICE recovered two World War I medals during a raid on a Dandenong North home.
Greater Dandenong CIU detectives are now searching for the owner of the Victory Medal and British War Medal 1914-1920.
The first is gold with a rainbow ribbon and the second is silver with a blue, orange and white striped ribbon.
Tasking Unit Detective Senior Constable Jamie Cummings said the medals were awarded to a private who served in the 22nd Australian Infantry Battalion and was a prisoner of war in Germany in 1917.
“We know the person they were awarded to,” he said.
“We don’t want to release the name because we want the claimant to say their name so we can prove the medals belong to them.”
They recovered them on 5 February while executing a search warrant for an unrelated matter, from a woman who said she found the medals in a park several years earlier.
