GREATER Dandenong council has streamlined the process granting police officers the power to enforce local laws.
Police officers in Dandenong and Springvale have long been allowed to enforce local laws with the permission of council.
But rather than waiting for a resolution of council, police officers can now be immediately granted the power of enforcement by Greater Dandenong’s chief executive officer, John Bennie, after councillors voted to delegate authorisation duties to Mr Bennie.
The motion fell just one week after an illegal drag race meet in Noble Park turned ugly, prompting police and the council to meet and discuss hoon-busting strategies.
