SPRINGVALE’S Minaret College has ranked first in Australia for a primary school maths and English competition.
The nation’s smartest mathematical and literacy primary school students this week celebrated their victory when Channel Nine visited to film a segment involving students to appear on the Kids Warner Bros Challenge television show.
The Islamic school had 10 students ranked in the Australian top 100 in the 2008 National Maths and Spelling Challenge held in September.
Its highest ranking student was Imran Memedi, in grade five, who came ninth in Australia, and was this week presented with a special trophy by the school.
The school scored 305,221 points in the competition – giving it a commanding 33,400 point lead over nearest competitor Dawson Park Primary School in Western Australia.
Of its classes, grade 5B ranked fourth in Australia with 133,018 points, grade 6A came 25th with 43,757, and Year 6C with 35,231.
