$14 mill. state-of-the-art bus depot

GRENDA Corporation will launch its new $14 million bus depot this week with a host of state-of-the-art features.
The building has moved Grenda from its historic Foster Street site to just south of the rail line near Cheltenham Road.
The facility opened in March after the first sod was turned in 2007, and since then the company has been relocating its operations to the new building.
The building has a 4.5 star efficiency rating and features six 25,000-litre rainwater tanks to capture all water falling on the building’s roof.
The workshop roof water is used to wash buses, and the company anticipates that, once the six tanks are full, it will be fully self-sufficient.
Water falling on the office building will be used to flush toilets and for irrigation.
The relocation was made possible with the help of VicUrban which has purchased the Grenda site as part of its $290 million Revitalising Central Dandenong project.
