COMMUNITY groups in Greater Dandenong could play a bigger role in identifying suicidal people.
The council is preparing a report on a program being run in Tasmania that educates community members on the signs of suicide.
Noble Park North Ward councillor Maria Sampey said the council should consider the program and see if it could be implemented within the city.
Cr Sampey told the chamber that indicators that a suicidal person shows were difficult to spot unless one knew the signs.
Groups including local benevolent societies would be trained to spot such signs and lead to the prevention of suicide before it is too late.
