Mayor opts for cash support

A $30,000 donation has been made by the City of Greater Dandenong to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
“Based on the advice from emergency support agencies, financial support is the most immediate and effective way of offering help to those in need,” mayor Pinar Yesil said. The City of Greater Dandenong is assisting other councils who have been directly affected by the bushfire crisis, Regulatory Services manager Peter Shelton said.
“Staff are assisting Mitchell Shire in assessing and offering advice on health and hygiene matters,” he said. “Animal management officers have been sent to Yarra Ranges Shire to assist in the transport (of) and temporary housing of animals affected by the fires.
“Council’s deputy Municipal Fire Prevention officer is also assisting Yarra Ranges in coordinating resources.” Mayor Yesil said council urged the community to donate whatever possible.
