A TEAM of eight to 10 Dandenong CFA members will don uniforms, carry torches, and march along other brigades at a torchlight parade on Saturday.
This will be the first year the brigade will join the CFA Knox Brigade Group in the parade at Ferntree Gully.
“We normally compete in other competitions around the state but thought we would join the Knox Brigade this year,” Dandenong CFA First Lieutenant Joe Aitken said.
“There will be brigades from Region 13, and we are Region 8. It is important for us to get together and march in harmony.”
Firefighters from different brigades take part in the traditional parade every two years. They carry kerosene- fuelled lamps through Ferntree Gully, keeping step to the beat of a marching band.
The public is encouraged to gather along the parade route and at the oval to greet the firefighters.
The march will begin at 8.30pm at The Avenue, turn right into Station Street and proceed almost to Burwood Highway.
The march will then turn left into Spring Street and right into Selman Avenue. Burwood Highway will be closed while firefighters proceed to the football oval.A live music and fireworks display festival will follow at the oval .
