GREATER Dandenong will host a range of events to celebrate the role libraries play in our community.
As part of this year’s Library and Information Week, Springvale and Dandenong libraries will hold activities based on the theme ‘Libraries your passport to discovery’.
The week, which runs from Monday 25 May to Sunday 31 May, will highlight libraries as a place to access, communicate, connect, educate, entertain and inform. Both of the libraries will have readings of the book “Pete the sheep” at 11am, on Wednesday 27 May. The book will be read in libraries across Australia at this time as part of National Simultaneous Storytime.
An opportunity to find out more about language, place names, culture and contemporary issues facing the Aboriginal community will be available at Springvale library on Tuesday 26, from 10 to 11am, and Dandenong Library on Wednesday 3 June, from 7 to 8pm.
Wadawurrung Dreaming will include hands-on experiences with traditional tools and artefacts, including spears and boomerangs.
For details contact Springvale Library on 9239 5398, or Dandenong Library on 9238 1489.
