Dandy night at the opera

By Bridget Cook
La Prima Opera will provide a different kind of opera experience, putting the fun back into more than 400 years of tradition.
The core of the La Prima members include international Australian-born soprano Alison Rae Jones, and Australia’s fastest rising tenor from ABC televisions Operatunity, Roy Best.
Ms Rae Jones said the show would have an impact on those who wouldn’t normally be interested in the opera genre.
“The main thing is we want to bring high quality opera to audiences who wouldn’t normally go to see an opera,” she said.
The show incorporates some of the best-loved highlights and show-stopping numbers from operas over the years including Nessun Dorma, and famous pieces from The Marriage of Figaro, La Boheme, Carmen, Rigoletto.
“There are not really any songs the audience wouldn’t know,” Ms Rae Jones said.
The show will be at the Drum Theatre on Friday 5 June at 8pm. Cost per ticket is $35 for adults and $31 for concession.
Tickets are available through the Drum Theatre Box Office on 9771 6666.
