Grant program helps our veterans

GRANTS of up to $50,000 are available to commemorate the state’s veterans.
The 2009/2010 Victorian Veterans Council Grant Program includes the Victorian Veterans Fund and the Anzac Day Proceeds Fund.
The grants are aimed to educate the community about Victoria’s involvement in Australia’s war and service history, support events that honour and commemorate veterans, help with veterans’ dependants education, and provide welfare support to veterans.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Gordon Rich-Phillips said many of Dandenong’s residents have played an important part in the defence and service of Australia and they deserve recognition.
“The selfless sacrifices many Dandenong locals and their families have made must be not only remembered but also deserve to be celebrated,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.
“I encourage anyone involved in Dandenong’s veteran community, veterans themselves or their families, to apply for these grants and show our veterans how much they are appreciated.”
Preference for the grants will be given to lower cost projects but grants of up to $50,000 are available. Applications in excess of $50,000 may be considered for funding provided that the project is discussed with the Veterans Council prior to submission.
Applications close on 21 September 2009 for the Anzac Day Proceeds Fund and the Veterans Fund (round 1) and 1 February 2010 for the Veterans Fund (round 2).
A copy of the application form can be accessed from the download section at www.gordon.rich-phillips.com.au and either; posted to GPO Box, 2392, Melbourne VIC 3001, faxed to 03 9208 3680 or emailed to grantapplications@dpcd.vic.gov.au.
