LOCAL talent will be on show in the Dandenong Plaza this month, with the winners of a young talent quest to take to the stage.
Talented singers and dancers will perform in the centre on Saturday.
The six winning acts from last year’s Urban Quest, a unique local talent competition run by Mission Australia, will perform along with two guest performances from previous winners.
The talent competition was organised by Dandenong youths to empower young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
“Organised by young people for young people, the event provides them with a space to freely express themselves and participate actively within the community,” Mission Australia spokesperson Rosemary Nelson said.
The categories include street (rap, spoken word and beat boxing), vocal and dance, and consists of an audition, heats and grand final stage.
Aiming to build on artistic and musical skills, participants attended a number of workshops and heats, concluding with the talent competition on 23 October last year.
The eighth annual competition unearthed the best young rappers, singers and dancers from the local underground music scene, with record crowds gathering to witness Dandenong’s young people perform.
“The amount of young talent in Dandenong is unbelievable,” Ms Nelson said.
“We have been completely overwhelmed with the level of professionalism and raw talent displayed by participants.”
The performers will showcase their talent on level 2 of Dandenong Plaza’s Centre Court at noon on Saturday.
