Emerge Festival takes many forms in Dandenong

Music, fine art, film and dance from many cultures will be celebrated at the Emerge Festival in Dandenong this month.

The main event on July 21 includes a performance by Burundian Drummers and a procession from Dandenong Market to Drum Theatre.

The main music stage will feature emerging artists from the indigenous community, the Asia-Pacific region, Afghanistan and African nations. A youth stage will host hip hop, soul and pop performances.

Walker Street Gallery and Arts Centre is hosting the Heartlands Refugee Fine Art Prize contest until July 28 and a short film festival on July 19.

Tributes to great artists

Liza Minelli, Bobby Darin and Shirley Bassey will be revived in a tribute show at The Dandenong Club on Friday. The performers are Aurora Mackrill and Issi Dye. Tickets available for dinner and/or the show from 6.30pm. Details: 9792 1963 or dandenongclub.com.au.
